Viewing algorithms and machine learning technologies as modern manifestations of the fairyworld. Where in folk belief entities known as færies would offer people convenience at a risk that follows a logic we can not fully comprehend, so too does our real time manipulation by algorithms and machine learning technologies. Realms of both ambivalent and malicious feedback loops we are all engaging in but don't understand. Just as a person could accidentally stumble into the fairyworld and lose their mind a person can unwittingly be led down a radicalizing rabbithole by an online algorithm.
